Wellness and Urgent Vet Care 306-382-6909
We strive to offer personalized veterinary care tailored to your pet's needs, your budget, and your lifestyle. We want to get to know your pet and your family, and be that trusted team you contact when you have a question or concern about your furry friend!
At each visit, our veterinarians will do a thorough physical exam on your companion, and will present and discuss options with you. We aim to give you all the information you need to make informed decisions for your pet’s care.
We offer routine wellness examinations with veterinary vaccinations based on the latest research. We will advise you on parasite control and nutrition for your pet. We can also implant microchips, which can be vital in helping your pet find their way back to you if they are ever lost.
Regular and ongoing annual wellness care helps provide valuable information and is crucial for early detection of ailments. Preventative treatment can add to your pet’s quality of life and longevity.
If your pet has an urgent need or sudden illness, don't hesitate to contact us. We will assess the situation over the phone and assess the urgency of the situation. We keep a certain number of same-day urgent or drop-off appointments for sick or injured pets. If it is in your pet's best interest, we may refer you to the University of Saskatchewan's Veterinary Medical Center or to another facility.
At this time we do not offer after-hours emergency service. If your pet has an urgent need outside of our regular hours, please call the Veterinary Medical Centre at 306-966-7126. The VMC is a 24-hour emergency hospital located at 52 Campus Drive (on the University of Saskatchewan campus). They perform triage and may provide emergency care or advise you to book an appointment with your regular veterinarian the next day if your pet's situation allows it.
Our veterinarians, Dr. Stephanie Cory, Dr. Ilse Dedden, and Dr. Sunghyang Choi are proficient and experienced in a vast range of surgeries. Whether your pet needs a routine spay or neuter appointment, or a more complex surgery such as a mass removal, bladder stones removal, spleen removal, hernia repair, or stomach or bowel surgery, do not hesitate to contact us for a consultation and estimate.
Surgical patients need a pre-operative appointment in which we will assess your pet, provide you with an estimate tailored to your pet's surgical needs, and discuss the proposed procedure with you.
On the morning of surgery, a same-day complimentary pre-operative physical exam will be completed on each patient, and optional pre-operative bloodwork is offered to ensure your pet's health status is known and taken into account when picking our anesthetic protocols. We administer pain control before, during and after the procedure tailored to your pet’s unique needs, IV fluids, and comprehensive anesthetic monitoring the entire time, with a dedicated technician monitoring your pet throughout their procedure. Surgeries are performed in our dedicated surgical suite. We also provide post-surgical care and a complimentary recheck of the incision site should you have any concerns about your pet's healing.
We understand that having your pet in for surgery can be stressful. We are here to make sure you feel informed, and your pet will be cared for and comforted like they are our own throughout the entire process.
Dental health is a vital part of veterinary care, and is essential to living a long, healthy, and pain-free life. Gum disease, attachment loss, dental infections and abscesses cause pain and can have effect on the whole body.
Our veterinarians will assess your pet's oral health and advise you on home care, and on the need for a dental cleaning.
Each dental patient undergoes a full pre-anesthetic assessment and is closely monitored during the whole procedure. Our anesthetic protocols are adjusted based on the pet's health and underlying conditions.
All of our dental patients get a full set of intra-oral digital radiographs, to ensure the whole tooth is evaluated and that any problems are found and addressed. Cleaning, scaling and polishing is performed by our experienced and qualified veterinary technicians under the supervision of a veterinarian, while extractions and oral surgeries are performed by our veterinarians.
After their procedure, your pet will go home with a personalized dental report and plan to keep their mouth healthy!
Our clinic is equipped with a full set of in-house blood and urine analyzers, ensuring fast and accurate results for your pet. Select laboratory tests will be referred to an outside lab.
Dr. Cory has over 10 years of experience with ultrasound, and performs in-house complete abdominal ultrasounds for dogs and cats. Ultrasound is a powerful tool to evaluate internal organs such as the liver, spleen, stomach, kidneys, bladder, and bowels. Dr. Cory also performs echocardiography (heart ultrasound); the images are then sent our and read by a boarded cardiologist (veterinarian specialized in cardiology). This ensures fast, accurate and reliable results, complete with a treatment plan recommended by a specialist. Dr. Cory accepts referrals from other clinics for those services.
Brighton Vet is equipped with a top-of-the-line full-body digital radiography system, allowing us to take quick and reliable images to assess your companion's chest, abdomen, and extremities. Radiographs (x-rays) can show the heart, lungs, abdominal organs, bones and soft tissues.
In some cases, x-rays and ultrasound are both needed to get a complete picture of a patient's status. We are proud to offer both in the same facility.
At Brighton Vet, we recognize that understanding when it is time to say goodbye will be one of the hardest decisions you have to make in your journey with your pet. Our veterinarians and our team will be there for you every step of the way, helping you assess your pet's quality of life as they near the end of their life, and supporting you through personalized veterinary care as your pet embarks on their last journey.
We offer a dedicated space in our clinic for your goodbyes and will honour your pet and your special relationship with them in a compassionate, caring and respectful manner.
